It’s Future Fish Friday! Every week we will feature one of our Steelheads prospects, so you can get to know what they are like on, and off the ice. This week’s Future Fish is Cristian Cugini.
Hometown: Etobicoke, ON
Previous Team: Minor Midget AAA Mississauga Rebels
Our second Future Fish, Cristian Cugini, was selected by the Steelheads in the 15th round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection (288th overall).
Cugini played his 2015-16 season with the Minor Midget AAA Mississauga Rebels along with fellow Steelheads prospect James Fletcher. Cugini is no stranger when it comes to winning a championship, he is a seven-time Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) champion, a six-time Kraft Cup champion, and a two-time Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) champion. When asked to describe his style of play, Cugini explains that he is controlled and firm most of the time, but acrobatic when needed.
Steelheads assistant general manager, Jan Egert, describes Cristian as ” a proven winner with big-game experience at the Minor Hockey Level. While at times he didn’t have a major workload this season with the Rebels, he always made the key saves to ensure his team came out on top. If there is one thing you cannot teach – it’s how to win – and Cristian has that valuable experience”.
