Future Fish Friday: James Fletcher

It’s Future Fish Friday! Every week we will be featuring one of our Steelheads’ prospects, so you can get to know what they are like on, and off the ice. This week we will be featuring prospect James Fletcher.

Birthday: 2000-01-05
Height: 5.09
Weight: 145
Shoots: Left
Position: Centre
Hometown: Brampton, ON
Previous Team: Minor Midget AAA
Mississauga Rebels

James Fletcher , a 13th round (248th overall) pick for the Steelheads, played his 2015-16 season for the Minor Midget AAA Mississauga Rebels alongside fellow Steelheads’ prospect, Cristian Cugini. During his time with the Rebels, he was a six-time Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) Champion, as well as a two-time Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Champion. When asked to describe his style of play, Fletcher wrote a “200 foot player”, implying he gets the job done at both ends of the rink and gives all his effort to attack the puck. These efforts were on full display during his time with the Rebels, as seen by their impressive championship record.

James isn’t the only person who notices his style of play. Steelheads assistant general manager, Jan Egert, had this to comment: “James is a shifty, smart & reliable, 200-ft centre. He’s the kind of player that hops over the boards in the key situations, like a faceoff in your own end late in the game, which is something he did all season long for the Mississauga ‘AAA’ Rebels. He’s the type of player every coach wishes he had on his team”.
