Future Fish Friday: Thomas Maia

Welcome back to Future Fish Friday! Today we feature Mississauga native Thomas Maia, selected in the ninth round (170th overall) after the Steelheads acquired the pick from Sault Ste. Marie.

Birthday: 2000-07-26
Height: 5.08
Weight: 148
Shoots: Left
Position:Left Wing
Hometown: Mississauga, ON
Previous Team: Minor Midget AAA Mississauga Rebels

Thomas Maia is the fourth Steelheads prospect from the Minor Midget AAA Mississauga Rebels, along with Nicholas Canade, James Fletcher and Cristian Cugini. Similar to his 2000 Rebels teammates, Maia is a seven-time GTHL champion and recently won the OHF championship. Thomas describes his style of play as a small sneaky forward, which was apparent in his last season with the Rebels, putting up 48 points (22 goals and 26 assists) in 70 games.

Steelheads assistant general manager, Jan Egert, comments on Thomas’ history and playing ability: “Thomas is another player from the Mississauga Rebels organization, who graduated the minor midget program with a winning pedigree; including the 2016 GTHL Championship. Maia is an excellent skater & smart player that often finds pockets of space in the offensive zone. He possesses the ability to make his teammates better or capitalize on opportunities himself.”
