Steelheads to Face Wolves in Round One

The Steelheads’ first round opponent, the Sudbury Wolves, was determined after their convincing 8-2 defeat at the hands of the Oshawa Generals on Sunday night.

Cory Stillman’s team finished the regular season with a 43-20-3-2 regular season record, while picking up the most points on home ice in the OHL’s Central Division. The Steelheads were outdone in the season series with the Wolves 4-2, but were 2-1 on home ice at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

The Wolves are backstopped by standout goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. The Finnish netminder recently set a franchise record for shutouts in a season (6) and finished the season tied for the most in the OHL. Offensively, the Wolves are powered by deadline acquisition Adam Ruzicka (41 points in 30 games) and rookie Quinton Byfield who has put together 61 points in 64 games this season. Blake Murray was the Wolves leading goal-scorer this season, finding the back of the net on 30 occasions for the Wolves.

Sudbury’s special teams are some of their strongest and weakest areas, the penalty kill operated at 83.2% clip good for 2nd in the OHL, while the power play lagged behind finding success on just 13.7% of opportunities and was ranked last in the OHL.
