Steelheads acquire Spencer Watson from Frontenacs for draft picks

The Mississauga Steelheads announce the acquisition of Spencer Watson from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for Sarnia’s 2nd round pick in 2017, Mississauga’s 2nd round selection in 2020, Windsor’s third round pick in 2019, and a conditional 7th round selection in 2017.

Watson, a native of London, Ontario, was originally selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the second round (24th overall) of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. In his four-year OHL career with the Frontenacs, Spencer scored 119 goals in 233 games played, including a career-high 43 goals in the 2015-16 season. Watson has represented Canada internationally, at both the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge & the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Tournament. Spencer was the top scorer at the Hlinka Tournament, recording 10 points including four goals as Canada claimed gold. Watson would go on to be selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.

“Spencer Watson is an experienced forward whose addition will bolster the Steelheads’ attack. Spencer continues to progress from off-season surgery and we look forward to seeing him in a Steelheads uniform when he is 100% ready to play,” commented Steelheads general manager, James Boyd.

The Steelheads would like to welcome Spencer and the Watson family to the organization.
