Mississauga Steelheads goalie Spencer Martin has been identified as one of 36 A-List prospects, a distinction given by National Hockey League Central Scouting to players who could potentially be picked in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Scouts have compiled a list consisting of players from Canada, the United States, Finland, Sweden and Russia.
Martin, 17, is coming off a rookie season in which he won only two out of 15 outings, but got stronger as the year progressed.
He won a bronze medal with Team Ontario at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and another bronze with Team Canada at the World Under-18 Hockey Championships last season.
He's also expected to play for Canada at next month's Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Martin is one of six Ontario Hockey League players on the A-List and one of only three goalies. Finland's Ville Husso and Zachary Fucale of the Halifax Mooseheads are the other two.
The 2013 NHL Draft will be held on June 28-29 in New Jersey.
