Steelheads select Kirill Nizhnikov 7th overall

Mississauga, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads Hockey Club today announced that Kirill Nizhnikov of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens will be the 7th overall pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.

Born March 29, 2000, Nizhnikov is a highly skilled right-winger from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Last season with the Canadiens, Nizhnikov recorded 37 points (23 goals and 14 assists) in 27 games. He had an impressive showing at the 2016 OHL Cup with three goals and five assists in six games.

OHL Central Scouting says the 6’0, 175 lb winger “has the ability to be a difference maker in each and every game he plays. When he has the puck on his stick, he is one of the most electric players in his age group. He makes plays that you don’t see coming. His creativity is off the charts and he makes the players around him better. Offensively, he is one of the top players in this draft but he still has some learning to do about the game defensively.”

The entire Steelheads organization would like to welcome Kirill and his family to Mississauga.
