Mississauga, ON – With their two selections in the 2014 CHL Import Draft, the Mississauga Steelheads are proud to announce that they have selected right wingers William Nylander (13th overall) and Lukas Haudum (73rd overall).

William Nylander was born May 1, 1996 in Calgary and grew up in North America before his family moved back to Europe when he was 14; they currently live in Stockholm, Sweden. The 5’9, 169 lb right winger had seven points in 22 games with Modo of the Swedish Hockey League in 2013-14, and played with his father (former NHLer Michael Nylander) for part of the season with second division Rogle, where he scored eight points in 18 games. Nylander was named the best forward at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship after leading all players in assists (10) and points (16) in seven games for Sweden.

This past weekend Nylander was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1st round (8th overall) at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Leafs General Manger, Dave Nonis commented “he’s got high-, high-end skill. He might be the most skilled player in the draft,” adding “he has NHL speed, NHL hands and an NHL shot right now. It’s whether or not the rest of his game can catch up.”

Lukas Haudum, a 5’11, 167 lb right winger and native of Austria, was born May 21, 1997. Haudum split time last season between the EHC Linz Under-18, where he recorded 58 points (29 goals, 29 assists) in 27 games, adding 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) during the playoffs, and the EHC Linz Under-20 where he recorded 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) in 15 games.

We would like to welcome both of these players to the Steelheads organization. The Mississauga Steelheads will open the 2014/2015 season at the Hershey Centre on Friday, September 26th at 7:30 pm against the Oshawa Generals.
