Weekend Preview | Gens & Spirit Visit Town

The Mississauga Steelheads are back at home this weekend with two big games. Heading into this weekend’s home-and-home with a 14-12-2-0 record, the Steelheads are set to take on the Oshawa Generals (17-9-2-0) on Friday night and the Saginaw Spirit (14-10-1-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

As part of Sunday’s entertainment versus the Spirit, the Steelheads are hosting their 7th annual Teddy Bear Toss Game. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed toy with them to toss on the ice when the Steelheads score their first goal, which will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club and distributed during Christmas. Canadian Tire will also be selling Teddy Bears on the concourse with all proceeds going to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Foundation. Fans are also welcome to bring their skates, as the Steelheads will be hosting a post-game skate with the team after the final buzzer. Tickets for kids 12 and under are just $6 on Sunday. Friday December 7 vs Oshawa Generals (Paramount Fine Foods Centre) Puck Drop @ 7:00pm

The Steelheads face-off against the Oshawa Generals for the first time this season at home on Friday in their first of four meetings. The Generals rely heavily on their depth with seven players scoring 20 or more points thus far this season. Leading the way is Florida Panthers’ draft pick Serron Noel with 33 points in 28 games. The Generals sit in a three-way tie for second place in the Eastern conference, six points ahead of the Steelheads. In their season series last season, the Generals came out on top winning three out of the four games.

Sunday December 9 vs Saginaw Spirit (Paramount Fine Foods Centre) Puck Drop @ 2:00pm

Coming into town for the first and only time this season, the Saginaw Spirit are sitting in fifth place in the Western conference standings. The Spirit are 5-4-1-0 in their last 10 games heading into their matchup with the Steelheads. With two players above a point per game, the Spirit depend on all four lines for scoring. In their first of two games this season, the Steelheads lost 5-1 to the Spirit in Saginaw in November and hope to tie their season series at one game apiece. More Details

Players to Watch

Mississauga Steelheads

Ryan McLeod: Heading into the weekend with only two points in his last five games, Ryan McLeod is due for a big game. The Steelheads are looking to their veterans to help them get out of their current slump and it’s the perfect opportunity for McLeod to help his team back get back into the win column.

Oshawa Generals

Serron Noel: Drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Noel is leading the Generals in scoring this season with 33 points in 28 games. In his last 10 games, Noel has 13 points leading the Generals to a 7-3-0-0 record over that span.

Saginaw Spirit

Bode Wilde: One of the handful of defencemen with over a point-per-game this season, Wilde is heading into this weekend with five points in his last five games.  The 6’3 D-man was drafted by the New York Islanders in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and is living up to the hype with 22 points in 21 games this season. Just this week Wilde signed his entry level contract with the Islanders.
