Callaghan, Whitson and Zuyev commit to Steelheads

As the Steelheads wrap up day four of training camp, the team is pleased to announce the commitment of three prospects in Charlie Callaghan, Carson Whitson and Nikita Zuyev.
Charlie Callaghan, a Toronto, Ontario native, and product of the Mississauga Reps (GTHL), was selected by the Steelheads in the eighth round (#148 overall) in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The 5’7”, 179-pound defenceman registered 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) in 33 games last season. “Charlie has had a great summer of training and continues to impress our coaching staff” said Steelheads head coach and general manager, James Richmond. “We look forward to seeing Charlie in the blue and white in Mississauga in the very near future.”
Carson Whitson, a product of the Central Ontario Wolves, is no stranger to the scoresheet. The 5’6”, 123-pound right winger registered 50 points (20 goals, 30 assists) in 34 games last season. James Richmond describes the Uxbridge, Ontario native as a “dynamic skilled forward” that has turned heads at camp, adding “we think Carson will be a very good OHLer very soon.”
Last but not least, the third player to commit to the Steelheads is Nikita Zuyev. Zuyev was selected from Team Belarus’ U20 with the Steelheads’ second round selection (24th overall) in the 2018 CHL Import Draft. After spending the 2017/18 season in the Belarus men’s league, the 5’11” 172-pound defenceman has a lot of potential in making an immediate impact in the Ontario Hockey League as the Steelheads’ second Import Draft player.
The Steelheads would like to welcome Callaghan, Whitson and Zuyev along with their families to the organization. As training camp continues this week at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, we look forward to our first pre-season game this Friday, August 31st at 7:00 pm against the Oshawa Generals. Tickets will be available for $5 at the door outside Rink #2.
