SmartStop Game Recap – Tough Night at the Garden City

The Steelheads couldn’t overcome early penalty troubles as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Niagara IceDogs.

First Period

Following a dominant win over the 67’s in Friday’s home opener, the Steelheads looked to continue their success. While the IceDogs strike first at the 6:57 mark with Cameron Peters scoring off a rebound, the Steelheads responded nicely 25 seconds later. Aidan Prueter registered his first goal of the season on a tremendous 3-on-1 end-to-end breakaway goal. Luke Misa and Zakary Lavoie got credit with the assist, marking Misa’s first career OHL assist.

The Steelheads were not as lucky the second half of the period, as players headed to the penalty box three times in the last ten minutes. Despite successfully averting disaster the first two times in the penalty kill, the IceDogs broke through in the final minute when Jake Uberti scored on the powerplay, shooting past Basran top shelf for a 2-1 Niagara lead.
