The Mississauga Steelheads return to action for their first two pre-season games on September 2 and 3 versus the Guelph Storm.
The Mississauga Steelheads will take to the ice for their first two pre-season games this Labour Day weekend. Playing the Guelph Storm for the first time since the 2021 pre-season, the two teams face-off in back-to-back games on September 2 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre and September 3 at the Sleeman Centre.
Last season, the Steelheads finished in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 82 points (37-23-2-6) while the Storm placed fifth in the Western Conference with 80 points (36-24-5-3). The Storm were eliminated by the Soo Greyhounds in the first round of the playoffs in four-to-one series loss. The Trout made it to the second round after beating the Barrie Colts in six games, but eventually fell to the OHL Championship-winning Hamilton Bulldogs.
After a successful 2021-22 season, the Steelheads’ core group including Ethan Del Mastro, James Hardie, Luca Del Bel Belluz, and Owen Beck return back and look to be better than ever. In the 2022 off-season, centremen Beck and Del Bel Belluz were selected in the second round of the NHL Draft to the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets respectively. Later in the summer, Del Mastro won a gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship with Team Canada.
The Storm had a busy off-season as well. Four members of the team were selected at this year’s NHL Draft, including Matthew Poitras, Danny Zhilkin, Michael Buchinger, and Jake Karabela. Additionally, defenceman Cam Allen and right-winger Sasha Pastujov represented their countries at the IIHF Hlinka Gretzky Cup and World Junior Championships respectively.
The two teams played each other in four pre-season games in 2021 but have not faced each other in the regular season since November 27, 2019. The teams will meet once more in the 2022 pre-season on September 23 before playing their first regular season game against each other on October 28 at the Sleeman Centre.
Tickets for the game on September 2 will be $5 and the game will take place on Rink 2 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Capacity is limited and seats are available on a first come first served basis. For more information call (905) 502 7788.
