In his third season in the OHL, Steelheads defender Charlie Callaghan hit his stride. Dishing out hard hits and reaching career bests, he made his mark in the 2021-22 season.
Ready to Play
As one of the most senior players on the Steelheads this season, Charlie Callaghan brought grit, strength, and a winning attitude to the team.
After the OHL’s year-long Covid-19 hiatus, the Toronto-native came back ready to play. He set the tone in the season opener, earning his first goal and assist of the year when the Trout defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 7-2.

By the end of the regular season, Callaghan had a total of 16 points (7G, 9A), doubling his production from the 2019-20 season. Of his seven goals, two were game-winners, ranking him second among Steelheads blueliners for game-winning goals (tied with Chas Sharpe). Working hard to support his teammates, the veteran could be consistently relied on to dish out hard hits and play a strong defensive game.
A Tough Competitor
In the playoffs, Callaghan stepped up, helping the Blue and White in high pressure situations. In the team’s double overtime victory over the Barrie Colts, Callaghan recorded assists on both goals scored in regulation. With another assist in Game 2 against the Hamilton Bulldogs, Callaghan finished second in playoff points by Steelheads defencemen (3).

After another hard-fought campaign with the Steelheads, Callaghan has once again proven himself to be a tough competitor. Increasing his production and presence on the ice year after year, he has become a key player in one of the league’s strongest defensive cores.
